Our mission is raising funds to purchase a 10-15 thousand SF plot within a South Side Chicago Opportunity Zone that will contain IWN.Haus, a 5-floor communal asset transferring technology/business coaching, event hosting and shared profit governance into community control through worker cooperative management.
The below statistics from the Community Wealth Building Initiative Report (<--download) underscores the outlined need for expanding inclusive ownership tools as a response to inequities in Chicago.
The Problem: Barriers to Wealth Mobility at Scale
The national median wealth of white families stands 8x higher than Black families and 5x higher than Latinx families on average (p.10)
The average white family experienced just an 11% reduction in wealth between 2007-2010, compared to 31% for Black families and 44% for Latinx families over that period (p.10)
The People: Public Housing Residents
In Chicago, average black homeownership sits just 35% compared to 54% for white households (p.10)
Black homeowners have a median home value of $145k compared to $275k median home value for white homeowners (p.10)
The Possibility: Shift Power Dynamics
Community Wealth Building is defined as local, democratic and shared ownership and control of community assets like homes and businesses (p.15)
It creates local economies that equitably share risks and rewards (p.15)

We aim to collectively raise funds securing a 10-15,000 square foot site in a Chicago Opportunity Zone that will contain a 5-story community wealth building hub uplifting resident resources around technology skills training, e-commerce business incubation, content creation, public gathering spaces and more.
IWN.Haus pays homage to founder Edmund Danté Hamilton's childhood community center, Garden Valley Neighborhood House, which nourished formative experiences that changed his trajectory. IWN symbolizes “Internet Webpages Newspaper, Inc.” the entity financing the project.
The name IWN.Haus is actually the domain name for the main website as .HAUS is a domain name extension like .com, .org and .net but not as commonly used.
"Haus" is also German for "House" and since Hamilton was involved with Printing for over 45 years and the printing press was originated in Germany he chose to use "Haus" instead of "House".

Upon hitting our $3 million crowdfunding goal by December 2025 at the latest, we will finalize bidding to secure the purchased Chicago parcel so we can break ground. We anticipate opening the facility in Fall 2026 if all goes according to our estimates.
Our Interior Design Quest would empower community contest winners to guide actual facility fabrication. Public auctions enabled by leaderboard bidding could allow participants to name rooms. Even crowdsourced construction decisions promise to turn co-creation participatory by vote.
Opportunity Zones offer investors sizable capital gains tax reductions to incentivize development in designated under-resourced zones. We plan on fully utilizing this tool for economic justice.
